about us

Great Western District supports Scouting in the North of Glasgow and part of East Dunbartonshire. The District has 14 Scout Groups and provides Scouting to young people in the local communities of:
Anniesland Bearsden Broomhill Dowanhill

“The purpose of Scouting is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.”

As District Commissioner of Great Western District, a role I have held since 2008, I believe very strongly in the words of the purpose of scouting. Scouting has been a huge part of my life since 1988, and the vast range of experiences it offers for members cannot be rivaled. I am proud to say that throughout Great Western District we are a highly dedicated team of volunteers, working very hard to facilitate opportunities for the young people.

Weekly meetings in the 14 scout groups provide games and activities, which can be linked to achieving badges and awards, or just for fun. Regular camps either in tents or buildings offer additional fun and opportunity for children to develop.

The District supplements the Scout Group activities by having competitions and events several times a year for each age group. Our biggest event so far was our District Camp at Auchengillan, attended by 560 children!

So come along, have a look at our website, see the exciting activities on offer! If you would like further information on joining as an adult or youth member, please click here.
